CONTINUATION No.2. DONALD SESSIONS & COMPANY LTD.

Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd. December 10th.1932.

detailed on sheet B., this shows a combination of bent plate and the modification of the existing part F.79628, dimensions of holes etc. being identical. In this case, 5/16" will have to be machined off the top face of the packing pieces, and the ends squared up as indicated.

The 5/16" thick bent plate to carry the jack will then have to be clamped between the spring and the packing piece without necessitating longer U bolts or detracting from the ground clearance.

Our existing fittings are, of course, a compromise, as it is our policy not to disturb or alter any part of the car when fitting D.W.S.jacks.

With regard to the front fitting, our standard fitting is quite neat and efficient, but could be greatly improved if the axle beam were slightly modified, as shown on sheet C.

The modification here, depends on your manufacturing methods, but the suggestion may perhaps be of interest.

Respecting the immediate fitting of D.W.S. jacks to the experimental Phantom II at Derby. We should like you to prepare, and fit, if approved, the jack mounting suggested on sheet A.{Mr Adams} or B., as in this way you can satisfy yourselves that this is properly carried out in the correct materials.

In the case of the front fitting, our standard method will be used for testing purposes.

It is possible, and quite satisfactory, to have two jacks on the front axle, the disadvantages being merely a little extra weight, and an increased price; while the advantages are easier lift, and a shorter driving shaft.

We propose, however, to bring to Derby two extra jacks, and with your permission, fit out another front axle in this manner, so that the two schemes can be compared from all standpoints.
