If you think it is desirable that Jellinek should have our most recent chassis - of which I am a little doubtful, as we can only conclude that he would want it to help the Mercedes Co. - we could arrange to send the experimental car at some future date. We should not require it to be away long, as we are terribly lost without a car, that is why I thought it would be better to have the little Peugot, or some other car, from which we could learn something here, and I am willing to forego any loss that may be incurred with reference to the small Peugot or any other small chassis, from which you think we could learn something. Unfortunately, the Works sent us the experimental car with the same connecting rods on, which broke when it was out before, that is, those severely lightened by drilling and milling, which we decided on examination of the model were not good enough. Again, one of these has broken between Hyers and Toulon, and the car had to be towed into Hyeres, which we much regret. However Mr Elliott and the chauffeur, on my suggestion quickly removed the damaged parts and drove Handwritten notes: Top right: "COPY" (stamped) Center top: Illegible signature/initials, possibly "X928".
