BT{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}/NS{Norman Scott} c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1153 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/G.15.5.39. B.5 and B.50 GEAR BOX. COMBINED FILLER, BREATHER AND DIP STICK. Please receive herewith :- G.CD.1359 Combined Filler Breather and Dip Stick in accordance with the suggestion in Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}5/MG.22.4.39. A scheme similar to this has been instructed for Wraith III G.CD.1343. Our comment on that is that the outer breather hole being on the exposed surface of the knob will cause the latter to become covered with an oil film.On G.CD.1359, which is applicable to B.5 and B.50, we have shown this hole communicating with one in the gearbox casting, so tending to keep the oil off the knob.
