CHASSIS B.8.GA - PARIS TRIALS CAR.
Mileage 15.289 Kms.

With further reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}II/KW.30.6.36, we have removed the bottom half of the crankcase and dismantled and examined the Halls metal aluminium tin bearings of the connecting rods of this car (we did not remove the connecting rods from the engine) and, in this connection, we attach a sketch and some measurements which we made and which you will find self-explanatory.

Generally speaking we found the bearings to be in good condition and as far as we were able to tell without removing the rods and taking internal measurements of the bearings, etc., when fitted to the rods, there did not appear to be much wrong. The bearings had a good surface and there were no signs of cracks. You will observe from the sketch, however, that the bearings show slight signs of the "hammering" effect.

We found the faces (marked D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} on the sketch) of the upper and lower halves of the bearings to be lower than the corresponding faces of the top and bottom halves of the connecting rods by .00025". The liners and faces of the bearings were in a good condition.

We have re-erected the bearings to the engine and made sure that the bolts of the connecting rods were well tightened up.

We propose to examine the bearings once more when the engine is ready for an R.20 clean and when the car has covered a total mileage of about 30.000 Kms.

Perhaps it would be as well if you would arrange to have sent to us a complete set of mains and big ends in case we need them when we carry out the R.20 engine clean.

Sr. thinks that, if you require more information about the bearings on our Trials cars, we should examine those on chassis B.60.GA together with GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}, as this car has been driven harder and by more people than B.8.GA.
