Messrs. P & R. {Sir Henry Royce} -2- Contd.

perforating apparatus which would make the cost of the thicker separators (perforated like standard) more than at present.

Contrary to anticipation, however, on making an estimate of the hole area per square inch, we found the thicker sample actually contained 11% more hole area than the thinner or standard sample. This appeared to settle the point, because in those circumstances it would not be necessary for the New Eccles Rubber Co. to make new perforating apparatus.

Finally, therefore, we told their representative that we wanted ebonite of from .65 to .75 mm., perforated with 100 holes per square inch, like the thick sample brought by him, and the special sample sent by you.

The New Eccles Rubber Co's representative stated that there would not be any extra cost in supplying your firm with perforated ebonite separators to this specification.

We shall be pleased to receive your remarks in due course.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
