| Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/KW. 15th January, 1936. A.H.R.Fedden, Esq., The Bristol Aeroplane Co.Ltd., Filton House, Bristol. Dear Fedden, Thank you for your letter of January 10th. I cannot understand Mr. Fairey saying he cannot use Ethyl with his high compression head, particularly as the octane value of this fuel in England has recently been raised to 80. Personally we always run our high compression heads on this fuel, and Lappin completed about 10,000 miles on one without detonation becoming too bad. I see no reason why you should not change back to the low compression head if you do not like the high compression one. It will mean changing the push rods. It will also mean that instead of changing the cylinder studs when we fit the high compression head we shall have to leave the long standard studs in position and use distance pieces. I think, however, that this can be arranged. It will be quite convenient for you to send the car up on the 20th. Yours sincerely, | ||
