1256 . Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 9th March, 1938. C.H. Brooks, Esq., Light Production Co.,Ltd., 60/66, Rochester Row, Westminster. S.W.1. Dear Brooks, Many thanks for your letter of the 7th March. We are much indebted to you for tin plating the pistons. The results we have had on the car pistons seems to be most promising. There is no doubt that it does seem to check scuffing, though curiously enough, although we experience a certain amount of scuffing on experimental work, it is absolutely unknown on production, presumably due to the way in which the engines are run in. However, if tin plating can reduce the necessary running in time it will pay for itself handsomely. Yours sincerely, | ||
