F.10. CARBURETTERS FOR 'V'. X.3933
X.3841

These are to permit of high level petrol and to be unaffected by tilting and acceleration.

I proposed altering to central float chamber, fore and aft, probably needing double floats with chamber of approx. equal capacity of a line drawn through the centre of the two throats.

You propose following Claudel, and transferring emulsion tube to float chamber.

I understood from Mr. Lovesey's report that the distance and capacity between petrol in emulsion tube and the final emulsion holes was partly the cause of the trouble in opening out, as well as the head required, and I concluded that it was because this had to be filled with petrol or emulsion before any came out of the final holes, so that we must have the minimum head against us, and the minimum space to fill, which cannot be done Claudel's new way or like the Spanish carburetter.

Supposing you have got over the difficulty of head, does not your proposal still run the risk of the petrol syphoning out if tilted, because the space is sealed above the emulsion tube?

I assume you have already consulted together, but if not, do so and find out what is likely to give satisfaction. We cannot afford to lose precious time and money by a very doubtful modification as I conclude it is, but I hope I am mistaken. Wire to me what is the opinion of -

Mr. Lovesey with Mr. Hives.
Mr. Elliott with yourself.

i.e. who believes in your Claudel type modification, or who demands central emulsion tube and float Stromberg like scheme.

Did not the Claudel in the Vee fail to pick up? Are you not doing very similarly except slightly less head against you?

I do not mind who makes the modifications, but thought E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} had drawn the last one which seems nearly right and could get you a new scheme quicker and better than Derby.
