31st March 1911 (dict. 30/3/11) R3/D31311 X/10/3 C.J. Renault. We had a the small 6-cylinder Renault at the Works last night. Platford, Hives and Wallis were out with it this morning. I went out with it for a short time both driving and riding in it. I should say this model was a disgrace to Renault. There was nothing nice about it except the clutch. The engine and the gear box and the power of the engine were all very poor indeed. The back axle was very fair, but considering the engine gave no power it ought to have been very good. There appeared to me to be also think crankshaft vibrations at two speeds and I should guess that the flywheel was considerably out of balance. The springing was abominable, the rear springs having enormous camber and both these and the front springs scarcely working at all. There was a lot of slack in the transmission on the direct drive. The engine failed altogether to run slowly unmoving. The crankshaft appeared to be very tight, - probably had been found to work in this condition better than when quite free. in the bearings 6141 D (1121 101 A) (HDO1) V&S. N'H | ||
