Wraith II Petrol Tank.

We send herewith LoC.5165 (3 sheets) showing the design of the petrol tank for Wraith II.

The tank is of light gauge material as stipulated on the drawing, and is carried in straps from the chassis frame.

The body of the tank is made in two halves in order to obtain a sump at the base of the tank whereby it is made possible to draw petrol when the tank is nearly empty, and on an incline of one in five. This sump enables one to draw petrol on a camber of one in ten under the same conditions.

Due to the narrow tank it has been necessary to use a filler in the side of the tank with a vent pipe from the centre of the tank at the top.

The elbow for the filler consists of two half pressings welded together being subsequently cleaned and tinned.

The gauge unit is that of the 25/30 H.P. with a modified length of arm. The angular movement of the arm is unchanged. This fitting will have to have the warning light contacts.

The actual complete capacity of the tank we calculate as being 19.3 gallons. We therefore suggest the tank be called an 18 gallon tank.

The method of dropping the tank is to undo the lower bolt on the rear cross member having previously slackened the tension in the top strap when the bottom strap can be hinged down and the tank dropped.

The material for lining the straps, we have provisionally called 'lamp-wick', and a certain amount of investigation will be required to find the suitable material. One might use some of the cork compounds or some type of soft Ferodo.

The stone guard is attached to the straps and the end of the tank.
