Open Touring GHJ-81:

It was a great disappointment to me to find, when again running the Open Touring car in which the engine from the Barkerlite car had been fitted, that what had once been an unusually pleasant type of Open Touring car had now become a very ordinary, definitely rough mechanism. This was especially a disappointment after hearing from you that you considered the car suitable for demonstration. I fear that there must be some misunderstanding between us as to what should constitute a good demonstration car.

I returned this car to Derby today, and it is necessary to have the engines again transposed between these two cars. It is true that the performance of the Open car may have been improved but at too great a sacrifice.

I should like to hear from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} as soon as possible any information of interest he may have in respect of any experiments he is making with a view to improving the roughness of the Barkerlite car.
