(2) One wheel must always be positively driven. When rounding a curve this will be the inside wheel, the outside wheel overrunning at a speed greater than that of the engine.

(3) Wheel spin (a serious factor in the wear of tyres)cannot occur.

(4) One rear wheel in boggy or slippery ground will not prevent drive.

(c) As brakes.

Positively controlled double clutches, with outer members fixed to frame.

(1) Braking would be of the "servo" type, the control lever merely regulating and not applying the braking forces.

(2) Heat efficiently dispersed by oil.

GENERAL INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS.

(a) As a "ratchet" drive.

(b) Clutches of all sizes from machine tools to heavy electrical generators or converters, allowing smooth slipping starting and thus preventing overloads on motors and shafting, and enabling some alternating current motors to be started under load.
