REPORT ON MR. J.C.W. HUMFREY'S INVENTION

1. MODE OF ACTION.

This invention consists essentially of a 'one-way' clutch for transmitting motion from a primary actuating mechanism to a secondary shaft, both the primary and the shaft being made to revolve about the same axis.

The action of the clutch is as follows:-

A portion XY of the secondary shaft is contracted into a neck UVW, as shown in fig. 1, this neck being suitably shaped in a manner to be explained.

This neck passes through a collar ABCDEF, rigidly attached to the primary, and the inside of this collar is shaped so as to correspond to the shape of the neck, but in such a way as to leave a ring-space between the two.
