Extract from letter from:- THE CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO.LTD., Clifton Junction, Nr. Manchester. 29th July, 1924. Ref. WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}/NJ. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, Your ref. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}6/NJ15.7.24 & Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}10/NJ21.7.24. Further to ours of the 22nd inst., we have now had an opportunity of considering your specifications Nos. 301 and 302, and the various points referred to in your letters of the 15th and 21st. inst. ----------- Specification No. 301. 40/50 HP. Chassis. The capacity of our battery is 80 ampere hours in 10 hours. Clause 4. The normal charge rate of our battery is 7 amperes, and we consider 12 amperes somewhat high if maintained for prolonged periods during the gassing period of charge. Clause 6. It has been our practice to fit two centre stays. Clause 7. Our battery with acid weighs 102 lbs. Clause 12. We seal each cell individually, and also seal across between adjacent cell lids, and from the cell lids to the sides and ends of the wood case. Commenting on Messrs. Peto & Radford's remarks contained in your letter of the 21st inst., Clause 8a, we feel that there might be a slight misunderstanding, as the dimensions quoted in your specification, viz3.5/32" width, 5.5/32" length and 8⅛" height, refer to the individual cell container, and we believe that in their letter of 21st Jan. 1924 to us, Messrs. Peto & Radford quoted dimensions approximating very closely with these figures. Perhaps the figure of 8.9/16" given as the height of their cell is actually the height over the terminals, but you will no doubt be able to confirm this. Clause 12. We are of the opinion that the wood spacers should not be entirely dispensed with since they give Contd. | ||
