SUPERCHARGER SLIPPER DRIVE. +Y4550 Tests were done on the rig to determine the torque at which slipping occurs. The bronze weights were removed from one gear of a 10 to 1 gear set. The curve shews the limiting HP. which could be transmitted at various speeds. If the readings be plotted to logarithmic scales, a slightly curved line is obtained, indicating that the torque is not quite proportional to the square of the speed, but to a very slightly higher power. This may be due to the fact that the condition of lubrication is a function of the speed. The points were obtained by running the blower up to the required speed with inlet and outlet throttled, and gradually opening first the outlet and then the inlet throttles so as to increase the load. The engine throttle was adjusted at the same time to keep the r.p.m. constant. The gears were lubricated with Motorine C. oil from the rig engine system, and were warmed up prior to testing. One set of 12 bronze weights (E.29973) from one gear wheel was found to weigh 11 1/4 ozs. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/S. S. Tresilian. | ||
