SERVICING RATIONALISED CARS. With reference to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}7/P.12.4.40. This seems a very good scheme. I would like to know, however, what are the average "inclusive" figures for the work, i.e. what are the mean travelling expenses. It must be remembered that after the war we intend to let agents deal with repairs on our cars. Also that we shall have to arrange how the cost of free service shall be borne. At present, Rover agents get 24% discount and bear responsibility for all servicing unless it is work that comes under the guarantee. Their guarantee work actually costs them less than £2. 0. 0. per car. If, therefore, we do the first service inspection free of charge at R.R. expense it must come, with the agents agreement, off their discount. On a £450. car it might come to 1%. It seems probable that the free service should be at 5,000 miles, and the next recommended service, to be paid for by the customer at 15,000, when it is likely that if the car is going to want decarbonising, pinking will have set in. I think we must try and get the servicing every 10,000 miles that is paid for by the customer down as low as possible, or he will not take advantage of it. A schedule of charges for work carried out by the agent such as brake adjustment, decarbonising, etc. should also be established taking Humber figures for a "Snipe" as a basis. Naturally we must try out our service scheme on the 15 BV being put into customers hands. I would like to see your proposals, with approximate "all in" charges for the BV as soon as you think that you have approached finality. We must not take too long, as these cars will be on the road in a month or so. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
