POINTS REQUIRING ATTENTION WHEN ADAPTING MARLES STEERING BOX TO RR.P.2. "C" TYPE CHASSIS

(1) Using a 2.250" diameter outer tube on the Marles Column(as per RR. Col) a reduction of 1.125" in centres would be necessary in order to clear carburetter(This reduction is, of course, also affected by points(2) and (3).

(2) RR. drop arm spindle is 1.250" diameter against Marles 1.375" dia. If Marles spindle were reduced to 1.250 diameter, and outer boss on casting reduced as much as practicable, we should be able to lower the Marles box on the frame(due to having a 2.250 diameter hole in frame channel). This would help carburetter clearance.

(3) Marles Column outer tube is 1.750 diameter against RR. 2.250 diameter. A 2.000" diameter tube with rigid anchorage on dash and frame would seem to be suitable but would involve modification to piece screwed into steering box carrying tube. Use of a 2.000" diameter tube would assist carburetter clearance.

(4) Distance from centre of column to centre of drop arm boss on RR. box is 6.875". If RR. length and diameter of drop arm spindle were maintained on Marles box, we could use existing RR. drop arm.
