84094. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} 6/KT. Sept. 24th,1932. Adamant Engineering Co., Dallow Road, Luton. For the attention of Mr Carlton Smith. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 13th Sept. We have now gone carefully into the question of fitting your steering box, type R.7, to our Phantom car, and show the results in our sketch Ex.9397. Our anxiety is to get the Marles steering on a R.R. car with the minimum possible modifications, so that it can be usefully tried on various cars. The first difficulty that we encounter is that to get your steering box into our frame we have to enlarge the hole in our side channel. This is undesirable as it means altering from standard every car on which we try the box. Our own drop arm shaft is 1.250" diameter against your 1.375" diameter. If you use our diameter of shaft, and reduce the casting dimensions accordingly, it would solve the difficulty but would mean a new pendulum lever and splines. Possibly you can alter your shaft splines to suit our existing Phantom lever. The distance from the centre of our column to the centre of the drop arm boss is 6.875". This smaller diameter would help cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
