HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} " WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} R1/M20.10.30. RECEIVED 22 OCT 1930 H ORIGINAL Y634 X5300 25HP. FLYWHEEL VIBRATION. We have concluded that this vibration will not vary directly with the overhang, but the energy of the vibration does depend upon the overhang and will be considerably reduced when the dimensions are reduced from about 3.5 to about 2.5, but we do not anticipate that the periodicity will be very much affected, being more dependent on the moment of inertia around the centre of vibration than the centre of gravity from the centre of vibration. We hope that you will get the improved flywheel to LeC. 2831. fitted at the first possible moment, this being the best we can do until we alter the engine suspension. The bosses for the arms will then be removed when the flywheel will be pushed on up to bearing bolt bosses. It has occurred to me that we might go still slightly further by adopting studs in this main bearing. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
