Proposed Legislation on Radio Suppression of Motor Cars.

It is proposed to introduce legislation for the suppression of interference from motor vehicles on short and ultra-short wave lengths.

The S.M.M.T. are represented on the committee and it is a matter of discussion to determine what amount of interference can be permitted from motor vehicles, and in order to supply the S.M.M.T. with the necessary information to enable them to state a case, we have intimated to them that we experience misfiring under extreme conditions of maximum torque.

They now further request, that we shall supply them with B.H.P. at 2,000 r.p.m. and also 3,500 r.p.m. with and without suppressors.

From measurements that have already been taken, it is anticipated that we should not require more than 15000 ohm. suppressors in each plug lead.

Can you therefore arrange a test, in order to provide the figures requested.

The suppressors are available when required.

Legislation already exists, which makes it illegal to produce Trolley Buses etc., which interfere with radio reception, but in anticipation of television, directional beacons for aircraft, and Post Office short wave transmissions, the B.B.C., Post Office and Air Ministry are anxious to make it a figure which will reduce interference field strength to a minimum, and should they succeed, we may be seriously affected in our ability to pick up from slow speeds.
