Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Major Searight.

We thank you for your letter of the 4th inst.

The two gauges in question are now to hand and we shall be returning the model to you in the course of spring the next post or so.

We quite follow the reason for the alteration in the pressure balance capillary, and shall run the altered unit 10,000 miles as soon as possible. In the meanwhile we are circularizing our Depots so that they can avoid the trouble with the present unit that you mention. You will appreciate that we do not want to make any alteration to the gauge until it has been run 10,000 miles.

With regard to the "pinch" fixing for the armoured casing. We should prefer a nut on the end of the small screw rather than the thread in the sheet metal.

With regard to the spring retaining the unit in the instrument board, we find that this is still very difficult to fit and we think that something better will have to be devised. We are trying one or two modifications out here, but should be glad if you could also persevere with the problem.

We do not like the idea of altering the material of the gauge. Our chemist is experimenting to see if we cannot give the aluminium some protective treatment.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls Royce Ltd.
