- 2 - The bearings were in a good condition. There was no sign of the oil pipes having become loose. VALVES & FITTINGS LOP.EB.141-LEC.3296. The loss of valve clearance has not been more than normal. The total loss being. Cylinder N°1 Inlet .003" Exhaust .002" N°2 " .001" " .001" N°3 " .001" " .002" N°4 " .002" " .004" N°5 " .000" " .000" N°6 " .001" " .002" The valves have been taken out and examined. With the exception of a brown deposit on the valve heads, the valves and seatings are in a good condition. The exhaust valves were tight in the bottom of the guide due to burnt oil. The valve springs have been quiet and free from fracture. S. U. CARBURETTORS The float chamber has become loose by the one nut seat location working loose. There has been no other fault. S.U. ELECTRIC PETROL PUMPS There has been no shortage of petrol, but the test is not satisfactory owing to the cold condition they are working under. With unprecedent conditions they would in all probability fail as the petrol filter position has not been altered. When cornering with three gallons in the tank, the pumps are very erratic, the inlet pipe in the tank apparently becomes open to air, due to the swish of the petrol. When engine is idling and slow running they work unevenly, and are noisy. When first switched on after car has stood they are very noisy whilst replenishing the float chambers. IGNITION PLUGS Three K.L.G. 765A long reach and three LODGE X335 have been used. These plugs had previously run 5300 miles. They were cleaned and set with a .015 gap at the start of the present mileage. Missfires on acceleration became noticeable after 3100 miles and were more definate during the latter part | ||
