HUB SERRATIONS - BENTLEY

Referring to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}15/N.6.4.38., it was intended that hubs should remain integral with the brake drum during rebroaching at W., and be stocked as complete replacement units.

Dealing with the points raised in GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s memo :-
items 1.2.3.4.5. The question of removing hub bolts and replacing same does not arise because, as explained above, hub and brake drum will not be separated.

Items 6.7.8.9. The cost of packing and transit should not be excessive, as hubs will be returned in definite quantities in order to replenish stocks. The total fixed outlay will be represented by the initial stock of hubs required to inaugurate the scheme.

Item II. We should, in any case, be committed to the cost of a broach whether the hubs were handled at depots or elsewhere. The equipment used in connection with the broaching operation is already installed at W., however which is the principal reason for suggesting that hubs be returned for rebroaching.

When it is necessary to replace a brake drum on a customer's car for the fitting of oversize driver hubs and correction of brake drums a set will be taken from the floating stock which will be available, but the customer will be debited with the expense incurred in the correction process.

Although a different set of brake drums and hubs will be fitted, these removed will be corrected and placed into stock. This will not present difficulty because there will be a definite set charge for such operations.

Before putting in hand the necessary broach, will GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} please confirm that .005 oversize serrations will be sufficient to cover any wear likely to be encountered after large mileages.

RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/S.Bannister.
