Hub Serrations.
----------------

With regard to your memo RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}2/MC.14.38, we note that you consider the expense would be too great to supply an over-size broach to the Depot and in its place recommend a small floating stock of hubs .005" oversize, to be kept. The Depots to send back to the Works worn .002" oversize hubs to be broached .005" oversize.

We are in agreement with this, but first should like to point out the following facts:-

1. The hub bolts are peened over.

2. These bolts will have to be either chiselled off or drilled out.

3. A new set of bolts and nuts will be necessary, 10 per set.

4. Questionable whether brake drums will run true, and will require grinding.

5. Time taken to do the above work.

6. Time and expense packing and sending to Works and back, may very often mean loss of time in delivery.

7. There will be approx. 4 sets per week necessary in twelve months time.

8. At the end of twelve months, these costs will have reached a high figure.

9. Hubs and drums are a unit, and expensive stock.

Which will be the cheapest?

1. Initial cost of broach.

2. The above cost in twelve months.
