Re :- 40-50 H.P.Chassis. Brake Drums.

In accordance with R's telegram, and confirming decision made at the Conference (Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}) on the 3rd.instant, the Rear Brake Drums are to be made thicker for Production as soon as possible. R.{Sir Henry Royce} suggested that more metal should be left on the outside of the Drums and that the Stiffening Flange should also be made thicker to the extent of 50% if possible, but the Works advise that they can only give us an increase of 40% when using Drums produced from material 1/4" thick. To do this the Works require the external radius of .300" increasing as they have already difficulty in cleaning the Drums up at this point.

Will you please issue corrected detail drawings for the Rear Brake Drums in accordance with the above, both to the Works and to the Experimental Department.

It is important that the Experimental Department check as quickly as possible by tests that we shall not run into other difficulties due to the stiffening up of these Drums, and in the meantime the Works should not have any of the modified Brake Drums built into Axles.

It was agreed at the Conference referred to above that Brake Drums made from .375" material should not be used, therefore will the Works hold up any machining on these, also will the O.O. see that no more Drums of this thickness are ordered.
