Attention of Mr. H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Royce.

Dear Sirs,

We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 12th inst. in which you inform us that the sample of Varnished silk aluminium foil strip we sent you has not proven satisfactory for your requirements.

As we pointed out in our letter of 3rd. Jan. we made these sample reels from stock widths of material that we had nearest to the dimensions that you specify, hoping that this would enable you to give the material a trial and see if it would give you mechanically what you require. We wish to emphasise the fact that in the use of such a material for the making of a condenser, in our experience you will find one of your difficulties making a satisfactory connection to the foil if this is a tin foil. The aluminium foil would overcome this difficulty, but as it is a much softer metal, in thin sheet form, than tin foil, it will always be a matter of difficulty to get this to lay to the silk without any slight kinks.

We will make a further sample reel to the dimensions which you specify and forward it to you in due course.

In the meantime, under separate cover we are forwarding you two sample reels of varnished cloth, one straight cut and the other bias cut, for the steering wheels of your cars, as requested on the occasion of Mr. Angold's visit.

Yours faithfully,
H.D. SYMONS & CO. LTD.
