and consequently the plunger making metallic contact with considerable velocity at A.{Mr Adams} (See sketch).

Summarising the troubles that have been eliminated, and those which remain to be dealt with -

R.R. Petrol Pump.

Troubles that have been dealt with.

(A) Insufficient High Speed Delivery.
(1) Alteration in Fabric return spring.
(2) Incorporation of air bottles in the system.
(3) Making tappet follow cam.
(4) Getting fabrics the correct fit.
(5) Incorrect position of valve ports relative to seats.

(B) Insufficient Low Speed Delivery and too much time to prime on Starter Motor.
(1) Insufficient stroke on Peregrine and J.III pumps.
(2) Too much capacity in line between pump and rear tank. 250 dia. line introduced and small capacity filter.
(3) Pump compression ratio too low.
(4) Pump size too small. Increased size of pump now designed.

(C) Mysterious Failures on the road.
(1) Vapour lock. Petrol pipe moved from contact with the frame.
(2) Valves not seating. Wrong relative position of valve and port.
(3) Sticking guide for fabric. Undercut guide in centre and increased clearance.
(4) Foreign matter on valve seats. There
