X4118 S/W {Sales / Derby Works} C&SK 3f C15/C13.12.26. Re Modified Steering Parts for the 20 h.p. We seem to be a little uncertain in regard to the position of this matter. So far as we understand the position, Mr. Guy Knowles complained about his steering, we had the car on two or three occasions and eventually told him it was the best we could do, but agreed that it was not right and that we were still carrying on experiments. Later on we asked Mr. Knowles to let us have his car as we thought we could improve it. We understand that you then fitted the new side steering tubes and springs, and either on that occasion or previously, friction washers. Mr. Guy Knowles was then perfectly satisfied with the steering of his car, which he had never been previously, and all who tried it appeared to agree that a very big improvement had been effected. We would now like to get this improvement on to our Trials cars at Home and Abroad, and presumably some of these parts will be required to deal with Complaints. From a memo. I recently saw from Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , however, he appears to be rather doubtful as to whether the improvement is so very marked, and whether it is due to the side steering tubes or not. In order to get this matter cleared up we would like to have your suggestions. C.
