1104 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 8th December, 1938. C. Kimber, Esq., The M.G. Car Company Ltd., ABINGDON-on-THAMES. My dear Kimber, Many thanks for your letter. I was not thinking so much of the bearings of Gardner's car which, of course, were not expected to have more than a very limited life, as of those on your production 2½-litre, which is now somewhere about the Bentley output in horse-power per litre. Possibly 'M.G.' owners are not quite so trying as Bentley owners who persist in driving their cars as hard as possible for 50,000 miles, and then grumble if new bearings are required. Anyhow, we can show you what we are doing when you come along. I am interested to hear that you were impressed with the Lagonda. I, too, think that they have done extra-ordinarily well in the short time they have been going, and also feel rather proud that quite a large part of the work was done by Tresilian who was my assistant for several years. We certainly find that their competition keeps us alive. Do not defer your visit too late in the New Year, as I may be going abroad in the middle of January. Yours sincerely, | ||
