WATFORD E06 MAGNETO No.81062 WITH IMPROVED LOCATION OF SLEEVES.

This magneto is generally much quieter than a number of machines that we have tested lately. The sleeve securing collar is located much better in the end bearing housing akthough there is still .002" clearance.

The magneto was first tested with the armature short circuited and then open circuited, in each case with the lever central, first rigidly fixed, and secondly loose, the speed of the magneto being 500 r.p.m.

With the armature short circuited the sleeves made very little noise at all, the noise being observed to be worse, when the cam ring lever was rigidly secured.

Upon running open circuited the sleeve noise increased about 50% and was also observed to be worse with the cam ring secured. In each case the noise could be considerably reduced by exerting pressure on the sleeve collar thereby holding the sleeves tight.in the end bearing location.

In conclusion it is considered that the better location of the sleeves in this magneto has considerably reduced the noise.
