OIL CONSUMPTION.

Although the oil consumption of the car running in France has been very high, the records we have of cars running under average conditions in England, the consumption appears quite satisfactory. One of the Trials Cars on which an accurate record has been kept of the consumption, has averaged 1600 m.p.g.. On the other cars which are running, the oil consumption is reported to be normal compared with the 40/50 HP.

As regards the low pressure oil of the rocker shaft and wheelcase. We find that if we use the original spring which was used on the wheelcase supply also on the camshaft supply, we get a difference in pressure due to the fact that in one case the weight of the valve is working against the spring and in the other case with the spring. This arrangement gives us 2 to 3 lbs. pressure for the rocker shaft, and 1 to 2 lbs. pressure for the wheelcase. This has been tried on a number of cars and is found to be satisfactory. It also has the advantage that there is no risk of the springs getting changed over. On the original scheme it was possible for this to occur.

The production cars are being sent out with two equal springs on the low pressure valves.
