MEMORANDUM TO THE DIRECTORS FROM CJ.

---------------------------------

3 Speed versus 4 Speed Gear Box.

---------------------------------

Please find herewith:-

1. Copy of my letter to Mr.Royce dated Thursday, 22nd Nov.
2. Copy of Mr.Royce's Memorandum of the 23rd November, sent to CJ and BJ, to the Works Manager, the Assistant Engineer, Mr.Bailey, Mr.Hives, Mr.Platford, Mr.Percy Northey and Mr.Cowen.
3. Copy of my letter of the 27th November to Mr.Royce.
4. Extract from Mr.Royce's memorandum to me dated 30th Nov.

I have not replied to Mr.Royce's memorandum of the 23rd November nor do I intend to do so.

I visited Mr.Royce at Chichester last Tuesday and apparently he had----accepted the decision that, from a Sales policy, the 4 speed gear box was at present necessary.

I think it might relieve Mr.Royce's feelings if he were to attend the Board Meeting and put his views before the Directors.

I am very anxious that he should not be irritated more than is necessary as his health and consequently his work are likely to be jeopardised if he is upset.

I suggest, therefore, that the Directors should resolve that they fully recognise the ingenuity and enthusiasm which have been displayed by Mr.Royce in preparing the 3 speed gear box but, in view of the representations of the Managing Director, they feel that they must ask Mr.Royce's consent to the postponement of its introduction until the buying public are sufficiently educated to realise the advantages of the 3 speed box over the 4 speed gear box.

GOSHAWK. Weight and length of bodies.
