Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} re Exhaust System. To cure the exhaust drono at 30 miles per hour on Phantom III we wish to introduce a modification as soon as possible which involves lengthening the front exhaust box by 8", and using 1 3/4" dia. tail pipe instead of 2" hung from the rear crossmember with a rubber link instead of the present device. We are preparing the modification scheme for these changes, and we do not think it requires a 10,000 mile test to introduce them on production. Two experimental Phantoms 33-EX and 37-EX have been successfully run with the mock up scheme, and it will be necessary to repeat the tests with the final method of introducing rubber in the tail pipe mounting. In the meantime we should be glad if you would arrange for this modification to be accommodated intthe ordering of the material for "O" series.
