Dear Wilks,

I was sorry to see signs of disturbance in your Factory when I was there last week and hope that the damage is not serious.

I am wondering how your new car engine is going now that you have had time to run it on the road and get some carbon in it. The things that interested me most were as follows :-

1. At what compression ratio can you run on the present Pool petrol (which is much better than the Pool petrol of last year) without any sign of detonation?

2. If you leave the throttle open so that the engine runs at about 1,000 r.p.m. when in neutral, and then switch off, do you find that the engine continues to run, or does it cut out instantly?

Yours sincerely,
