Rolls-Royce, Limited, DERBY. 20th July, 1934. FOR THE ATTENTION OF -. GRYLLS ESQ: Dear Sirs, With reference to your visit of Wednesday last, we would confirm having handed to you the Hoffmann bearing No. N.1421 which has been on our test rig for 100 hours, under certain loading conditions, and we enclose copy of our Test Report 610.B. covering the test which was carried out. We believe this report will fully cover your requirements, it being remembered that the original loading was reduced in order to ensure that the visual indications on the bearing were not confused with overload failure. Unfortunately, certain signs of pending overload failure are evident, but on the other hand, in the case of the roller track, there are also very distinct signs of the effects of the full type construction, these also being noted on the rollers themselves. We would confirm that we will now put up in the same rig, one of our bearings 4/MDJT.35 for a run of 100 hours at the original loading in this test, viz: 1,420 lbs. thrust and 1,050 lbs. journal, at 4,500 r.p.m., and we will communicate with you in due course Enclosure | ||
