S/W X3908 C7/C13.11.26. Re HEAT IN REAR FOOT-BOARDS. With reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/T23.1026, we quite agree that we ought to insist always upon the Coachbuilders improving the fitting of their floor-boards, and we agree that gaping floor-boards have in the past caused endless trouble. At the same time, we feel that in spite of proper fitting floor-boards, and the floor-boards being covered by various kinds of mats, such as Sorbo, etc. still this complaint does exist and we shall receive/again next Summer, when the hot weather comes along. them The real point, therefore, is as to whether this scheme fitted by Paris is not a more effective way of dealing with such complaints than even correct fitting floorboards. We, of course, do all we can to see that floor-boards are right, but our power in this respect is rather limited, inasmuch as we do not actually control the greater portion of the coachwork that is fitted, and, as you know, floor-boards that are perfect fitting in the first instance, sometimes shrink and leave holes, and if we had some method which would prevent the heat from getting through it would undoubtedly be useful. So that what we feel is that we should certainly proceed with the endeavour to get perfect fitting floor-boards, etc. as heretofor, but at the same time, if this scheme has your approval it would be something to use in the event of serious complaints.
