1360 + IOHH To Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} c. to G/JWH. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}4/JH.12.8.39. Exhaust Valves. In the July issue of the S.A.E. journal there is an interesting article on exhaust valves by Colwell. In the endeavour to produce a cheaper exhaust we should be obliged if you could order for us valves on the following lines from Doncasters? who we understand have recently installed equipment to produce extruded valves. (a) 36 valves in X10 material the analysis of which is Carbon - .3 - .45% Manganese - .8 - 1.3% Phosphorus - .03 Max. Sulphur - .03 Max. Silicon - 2.50 - 3.25 Chromium - 17.5 - 20.5 Nickel - 7.0 - 9.0 (b) 18 valves to be stellited and remaining 18 not stellited, the valves otherwise are to EX.33420. The above are for trial on the B.60 & B.80 engines and we should be interested to know how their cost compares with our KE.965 valves stellited (EX.33420) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H.
