X202. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M20.8.32. X.4027 X.4553 PEREGRINE & BENSPORT REAR AXLE. We send herewith N. sch. 3514, shewing the 8.5" hypoid gear, ratio 9/46, for Peregrine, and 10/41 for Bensport. It will be seen that the majority of the pieces are unaltered from the existing 8" Peregrine axle. In order to get in the Bensport gear with the increased pinion diameter we suggest it may be desirable to extend the distance from the transmsiion centreline to the flange on the differential .1", and expect that this can be done by modifying the dies. In other respects the differential is unaltered. Also in order to provide for the possibility of a still higher gear we suggest that though the pinion thrust bearing housing is the same diameter as now, provision should be made for increasing this diameter in case it is necessary. We should like to say that this drawing has been delayed owing to our not having the drawings of the Peregrine 8" gear. We asked for these during the holidays, and have made several enquiries since, but we received them only on Thursday last. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
