"NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I" CHASSIS COMPLAINTS.

(44) VALVE TAPPET SPRING BREAKAGES, causing faulty working of valves, stoppage on the road, i.e:-
Major Hodges' Trials Car 29-MC,
CWB's 10,000 miles test car, 11-EX,
and we also understand, Bt{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}'s Trials Car, 118-RC.{R. Childs}
[Handwritten note left]: ? Use of wrong steel for tappet springs.
[Handwritten note right]: TR{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}

(45) RUST IN FRONT ENGINE TRAY.
This point is being considered by the D.O. for the pockets in this tray to be drained, and if possible a more thorough drainage of the tray itself.
[Handwritten note left]: Recesses in front tray with hole for drainage immediately under oil pipes should remedy this.
[Handwritten note right]: insuperable

(46) CLUTCH (Further to No. 3).
Complaints have been received that the clutches have occasionally slipped, but they seem to become alright, and no further trouble is experienced. This has also happened on the 20 HP. car.
[Handwritten note left]: Should not occur if adjustments O.K. Clutch pedal probably fouls floor boards preventing full engagement. Also
[Handwritten note end of typed text]: may be due to driver resting foot on pedal when driving
[Handwritten note right]: TR{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}

(47) STONES AND ROAD GRIT GETTING UNDER BRAKE COVERS.
Customers have complained of this making a very disagreeable noise grating noise until the stone has freed itself. In some cases brake covers have had to be opened out so as to extricate the cause of the trouble.
[Handwritten note left]: Has this trouble occurred on 20HP? If not - is new type of dust cover not patent extended on 20 H.P.
[Handwritten note right]: TR{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}

(48) OIL FROM THE FRONT PIVOT GETTING ON TO THE FRONT BRAKES.
This has been the cause of one or two brake complaints. I am recommending that the precaution not to overoil the front pivots which Hsl pointed out in his original instructions on front wheel brakes should be embodied in the Instruction Book.
[Handwritten note left]: Recommending less lubrication to pivots may produce steering complaints. Stepped dust covers should overcome this; these could be experimented with in this respect on 20 H.P.
[Handwritten note bottom right]: if found efficient as dirt excluders.
[Handwritten note right]: OK
