RE. TELEGRAM FROM MR. ROYCE RECEIVED
9th. FEBRUARY.
X. 9940

Would you kindly note the following comments in reply to the points raised on CJ11/E11.2.24.

(a) and (b). Yes. We understand RG.{Mr Rowledge} is proceeding to connect the gearbox and servo casings together so as to lubricate from one source, and to alter the servo motor to EAC.1V. type.

RG{Mr Rowledge}'s design forms a valuable means of testing the slow speed servo on RR. chassis, and should save much time in testing.

(c) We should think it is higher desirable in all cases where possible to return the car to the Works, not only for changing the box but for the work to be done on the engine, in fitting the dynamo and moving the magneto.

The vital point however seems to be whether it is necessary to lift the body off the chassis for changing the gearbox. We think the gearbox with servo will go in as easily as an ordinary gearbox.

(d) It is not possible to omit this. The dynamo must be moved to make way for the servo.

(e) This is agreed. Mr. Royce's criticisms refer to the construction, and not to the operation of RG{Mr Rowledge}'s scheme.

(f) This is a question for the Works. No time is being lost at WW. in producing the new box etc. and incorporting the telegraphed criticisms from Mr. Royce.

E/DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}
