(2) Messrs. Delco-Remy & Hyatt Ltd. engine type test is 100 hours. We do not know what the rubbing speed of your 9-cylinder aircraft engine cam represents, but it must be remembered that we run 4,500 revs. Our experience is that we always run into a little trouble when we go into production with an outside product, but if they will work with us these troubles are soon ironed out to our mutual satisfaction. We think we can honestly say we have helped every outside supplier with whom we have dealt to improve the standard of their product, owing to the amount of experimental work which we carry out. The Writer feels that the way this job should be tackled is to put forward every effort to get the cams right, and we do not think we shall have any difficulty after this in settling the cost. We find it difficult to believe that you expect to encounter production difficulties in making cams of a brinell of 400. We admit that we expect more from our products than other people - this is probably why we had to abandon your high output coil at the last minute owing to repeated failures when we had been definitely assured that this coil gave perfect satisfaction on other cars. When we spoke to Mr. Rushton about the coil, he seemed quite convinced that the failures were due to the design, working under our extreme conditions. Yours faithfully, P.S. Mr. Child will call at your works on Monday the 14th instant, and should arrive in London about 10.50.a.m. | ||
