L1180 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}18/KW. 15th April, 1935. F.{Mr Friese} Longley Esq., Messrs. Ferodo Limited, Chapel-en-le-Frith. Dear Mr. Longley, Many thanks for sending the B.Z. linings for our test Girling brake layout. We think you might be interested in the results we have obtained. The original M.R. linings had a very marked fade out at high temperatures and on two of the wheels the linings had broken and obviously lost all their bonding. The B.Z. linings do not seem to be any better as regards fade at very high temperatures. On examination after a test run globules of zinc were found on the sides of the linings. Can you tell us what temperature is required to cause this ? Is the wire pure zinc or an alloy of lower melting point ? The brake drums were blued and scored inside with either lining. We realize the brakes have been very hot and should like to know what /u characteristics you would expect at the temperatures attained. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
