K-704 To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}; Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/KT.17.11.33 ROAD SPRINGS - VULTURE - MOCK UP. We naturally want to fit reasonably flexible road springs to this car in order to get a passable ride. On the other hand, until we get the aluminium engine, we have got to Budget for approximately the same weight on the front of this car as on a P.II. with road springs that are 5" shorter. We therefore cannot possibly have the equivalent of our present P.II. low rating front spring without the stress being prohibitively high. Taking the P.II. low rating as something we know is satisfactory we suggest that you ask Firths to make up the following springs:- Poundage. 1100. Initial Deflection. 2.75" Loaded Camber. 'By' to specify. Maximum Bump Deflection 4.5" Buffer clearance 1.5" Top leaf to be not less than .250" thick - i.e. same as present low rating P.II. We are not sure what the loaded position of the front spring should be on the 'Vulture'; will you please set it out and fill in specification accordingly. We should like to test these springs on the car before we order the final ones to go with the aluminium cylinder block engine. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
