| ( 4 ) I/.13.3.38. Parts. Result of Test. Rubber mounted High Pressure S.U. Petrol Pump on side of battery box with water proof rubber sleeves. 19,320 miles. (13,873 miles for rubber covers). Was effective in maintaining supply throughout mileage and was not disturbed. There were indications of periodic sticking and sluggishness of "B" side at intervals after 12,878 miles but recovered to normal. There is no intention of standardising this. Standard Clutch lined with Thermoid facings and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}448 washers under clutch springs. Facings spoilt by oil entering clutch after 12,887 miles. New plate fitted, covered 6,433 miles. Clutch excellent for smoothness of engagement and freedom from slip at all times except when oil was present. Clutch pedal servo spring. 15,020 miles. No trouble experienced. Effective in reducing pedal pressure without introducing any peculiarities in the action of the pedal. Overdrive Gearbox in conjunction with 10-43 Rear Axle ratio. 11,406 miles. Satisfactory and preferred to standard. No trouble experienced except oil leaks which are attributed to fitting rather than design faults, but require confirmation on other Bentley overdrive gearboxes produced. Hardy-Spicer Propellor Shaft. Removed and standard Bentley shaft (but without damper) fitted before leaving for France. The absence of the damper was not felt. | ||
