ALUMINIUM BRAKE DRUMS.

Reference your HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}1.7.39.

Before Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} left for France he instructed us not to hold up the sets of aluminium drums now being made.

We have instructed six sets of Iron drums for the show "Corniche" cars in By/CRL.{C. R. Lisson}2/E.3.7.39. These unfortunately differ from the other production drums because of the semi-floating axle and tin wheels which will, of course, go on all cars eventually.

Since we are buying some experimental aluminium drums outside it would seem unnecessary to complete more than 8 drums (enough for 2 cars) the liners for which are already machined. No material should be scrapped.

There should be an adequate supply of steel shoes for these Corniche cars but if production are not to be delayed the end plates for the drums will have to be urged. The Foundry should be able to do the casting fairly quickly.
