COPY. 4469 25th July 1929. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, ORDER NO. 88064 OF 25-3-29. NITRALLOY CRANKSHAFTS. We thank you for your letter of 24th instant ref: ROY{Sir Henry Royce}6/MG24.7.29, with regard to the above-mentioned order. Since writing you on the 26th ult. we would inform you that one Crankshaft of your 20-HP Type has already been despatched You will recollect that the remaining Crankshafts to your order were to be replaced. The material for four crankshafts (two of the 40-HP type and two of the 20-HP type) has now been prepared and is in billet form. We have been in touch with the English Steel Corporation (Messrs Vickers) from whom we learn that the 40-HP dies are at present installed in their stamping plant. We are therefore forwarding the Nitralloy billets to them, and they hope to have the 40-HP Crankshafts stamped and returned to us by Thursday next, August 1st. If this promise is maintained we hope that it will be possible to heat treat and forward them to you before Saturday, Aug. 3rd., when our works are closing down for one week. With regard to the two 20-HP Crankshafts, we understand that Messrs Vickers hope to have the dies for these installed in the very near future, and that it will therefore be possible for us to forward these Crankshafts to you shortly after our works reopen on August 12th. Yours faithfully, THOS. FIRTH & SONS LIMITED | ||
