X4469 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}1/MG26.8.29 NITRALLOY CRANKSHAFTS Firths advise that they despatched two 40/50 HP. Crankshafts on Saturday (24th) and will despatch two 20 HP. Crankshafts about the end of this week - these being the Nitralloy Crankshafts we ordered on March 25th, with the manufacture of which you will recollect Messrs. Firth experienced certain difficulties, the result being they started with a fresh batch. Stores are putting them on one side pending further instructions. These Crankshafts have passed through the treatment stage, and are now ready for machining, and it will be necessary to return them to Messrs. Firth in due course for nitriding, as presumably our own furnace is not big enough to take such Crankshafts - in addition to which I understand Messrs. Firth are anxious to supervise this, these being the initial experimental Cranks. ROY{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
