6116. c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.6/MA. 8th, May 1934. Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham, 19. For the attention of Mr.R.N.Neill. Dear Sir, Since we have decided to fit P.100 headlamps to the Bentley chassis the question of the weight of these lamps has become of paramount importance. We consider the weight of 21 lbs. for a 12" lamp is excessive the increase of weight over the standard Bentley being 7 lbs. In this connection we have recently been examining the specification of the new Marchal "Strilux" headlamps. The "Strilux" 897 which is the same size as the P.100 weighs only 11 lbs. which is approximately half the weight of the latter. This we consider is a remarkable achievement and would like you to inform us what steps you propose to take to effect further weight reduction to the P.100 headlamp in view of the results achieved by the Marchal concern whose productions achieve a certain degree of success on the Continent. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
