TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to EH. c. to WCD. c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ✓ ORIGINAL. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M16.12.22. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED DEC 27 1922 "SEAGULL" REAR AXLE. X9390 We send herewith N.sch. 1360 shewing the centre portion of the "Seagull" rear axle. There are 3 methods of taking the pinion end thrust, and we should like all 3 to be tried, and the most satisfactory one chosen. The conventional double thrust Mr. Royce thinks is not quite suitable for the high speed, and on the other hand we are not sure that the New Departure bearing and Hoffman Journal bearings are quite adequate for the end thrust. It will be seen that the aluminium centre is merely used as a distance piece. The side plates of the box are meant to be nickel steel pres-sings. The bolts have been increased one size larger than we have been in the habit of using. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
