OIL LEAKS FROM BIJUR PUMP.
-------------------------

We return to you herewith, the pump which you sent us to modify.

We have carried out the following modifications for you to test. The delay has been caused by the difficulty of getting some special leather washers.

(1) Alteration to leather washer to make this more of a gland, with a scraping action on the piston rod.

(2) Holes and a baffle which we hope will deflect any oil which does escape down on the engine side of the dash, instead of on the passenger side.

(3) Cap nuts and soft aluminium washers to stop leaks from the two nuts on the lid{A. J. Lidsey}; (in accordance with Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}3/T18.7.29).

Alterations 2 and 3 may appear incongruous, but this is merely for purposes of test. Possibly you would like to try alteration 2 on a really bad leak.

We have made only a rough job of the alterations to the lid.{A. J. Lidsey} We would of course recommend alterations to the casting should the idea prove acceptable. A small piece of pipe might be fitted to drain the oil down the back of the pump.
